I owe years worth of child support which i could never pay since i never worked. Now im getting ready to be approved for disability. Can child support touch my disability checks?
Yes. A disabled person living on social security income is not exempted from his/her child support obligations. However, if child support was assessed before the person went on SSI, the person can likely file a Petition to Modify Child Support based upon his/her lowered income based upon the fact that he/she is making less money now that he/she is on SSI. We hope that this answer provides you some basic understanding of the law in this area and wish you the best of luck in this situation.
